Wayne State University Full-time, Tenure-track Cultural Anthropology Position

The Department of Anthropology at Wayne State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Cultural Anthropology position beginning in August 2020 at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a dynamic and innovative scholar who will contribute to the department’s Business and Organizational Anthropology track. Desired specializations include, but are not limited to: design, science/technology/societies, heritage, and environment. Geographical area specialization is open, but we prefer someone who complements existing expertise. Scholars focused on topics of race and structural inequalities are desired. The candidate is expected to contribute to Wayne State University’s mission as a premier urban research university.
We are seeking a colleague who has a developing or ongoing research program in applied anthropology, a record of, or potential for publication, a history or potential for securing external funding, and a commitment to diversity and providing a multicultural learning environment for undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to take advantage of our location in Detroit and contribute to the department’s “Anthropology of the City” initiative. In doing so, she/he will be expected to establish a strong network of community collaborators. The candidate will also be responsible for teaching new and existing undergraduate and graduate courses, and coordinating student internships and practicums.
The Wayne State University Anthropology Department has been an internationally-recognized leader in applied anthropology for over 60 years. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications (Ph.D. in Anthropology required; all candidates who are ABD must have the degree in hand before August 1, 2020).
