Business Anthropology Meetup

Updated: Feb 8, 2020

A new business anthropology Meetup is being launched in New York City, NY. It's is intended to be a local salon for anthropologists working in business settings and for anyone interested in discussing the role of anthropology in business. Come to the meetups to connect with practicing anthropologists, share your experiences, discuss the diverse ways anthropologists support business practices today, and explore ways anthropology in business can evolve into novel directions.

The inaugural salon, titled Anthropologist as a Professional Identity will be held Thursday, October 17th from 5:30-7:00pm at the the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University. The official announcement is as follows:

It is our hope that the Business Anthropology Salon will become a space for working anthropologists to network, share experiences, and exchange advice with one another on all things anthropology in business. To anchor our conversations, each event will be centered around a topic/set of guided conversations around a common theme relevant to the community. The theme of our inaugural BA Salon is “Anthropologist as a Professional Identity.” Many of us feel that “anthropologist” is neither a necessary nor a legible identity in the professional settings we inhabit. Please join us for a moderated conversation with Patti Sunderland, Martha Bird, Claire Rowell, and Liz Deluca about the impact that elevating "anthropologist" as a professional identity may have on our work. To help us cover the cost of snacks and drinks, we will be collecting a $5 cover charge which can be paid through meetup.com. Special thanks to Clinical Professor Timothy D. Malefyt, Marketing Area Chair Sertan Kabadayi, and the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University for hosting this event
